Hydronephrosis treatment involves removing the obstruction of the tract, and allowing the urine which has built up to properly drain. Treatment thus depends on the status (acute or chronic) and where the obstruction is located.
Common treatment measures for different types include:
Acute upper urinary tract obstruction
Chronic upper urinary tract obstruction
Acute or chronic lower urinary tract obstruction
If a bilateral obstruction - one that occurs in both of the patient's kidneys - remains untreated, complications may occur and the prognosis is generally poor.
